Citation accuracy
Citation output depends on the source metadata available to the generator.
Metadata can be:
- incomplete;
- inaccurate;
- ambiguous;
- attached to the wrong edition;
- missing contributor roles;
- changed by a publisher or database.
Always review the source details and final citation.
Instructor and publisher requirements
Chicago style allows context-specific variation, and instructors, universities, journals, publishers, dissertation offices, or other organizations may impose additional rules.
Their instructions take priority for your work.
Automated metadata
The generator can retrieve metadata from third-party services and public webpages.
Third-party metadata is not guaranteed to be complete or correct.
The site does not control the accuracy or availability of:
- Crossref;
- Google Books;
- PubMed / NCBI;
- external websites;
- other third-party services.
PDF limitation
PDF import is not guaranteed full bibliographic extraction.
The current workflow attempts to identify a DOI from a PDF and then perform normal metadata lookup.
A PDF may have no DOI or may require manual metadata entry.
Book-chapter limitation
The current plugin includes a Book chapter source type, but complete edited-book chapter citations can require contributor roles such as editors and translators that are not yet fully represented in the current metadata editor.
Book-chapter output should be manually checked against the source and the Chicago Book Chapter Citation guide.
Academic integrity
The generator does not determine whether your work complies with plagiarism, attribution, quotation, collaboration, AI-use, or academic-integrity policies.
You are responsible for following the rules that apply to your course, institution, publisher, or research context.
