Use this page to report a citation error, generator problem, metadata issue, broken link, or content correction. The most useful reports include enough information for us to reproduce the problem.

    Report a citation or generator issue

    Please include:

    • the page or tool where the problem occurred;
    • the source type;
    • the input you used, such as DOI, ISBN, PMID, URL, or title;
    • the Chicago system selected: Notes & Bibliography or Author-Date;
    • the output you received;
    • what you believe is incorrect;
    • a link to an authoritative source or example when available.

    Do not send passwords, account credentials, private research data, or confidential documents.

    Report incorrect metadata

    Automatic source metadata can come from external services such as:

    • Crossref
    • Google Books
    • PubMed / NCBI
    • webpage metadata

    If the retrieved author, title, date, edition, publisher, journal information, DOI, or URL is wrong, tell us what the source itself shows.

    Editorial corrections

    If you find a possible error in one of our guides, include:

    • page URL;
    • section heading;
    • wording you believe is wrong;
    • the relevant Chicago 18 rule;
    • official or institutional source when available.

    Technical problems

    For generator problems, it helps to include:

    • browser and device;
    • approximate time the issue occurred;
    • input type;
    • error message;
    • whether the problem persists after reloading.

    Do not include information you do not want shared with the site operator.
